Families United Network

The Client

Families United Network (FUN) has been a registered charity since 2002. FUN support children and young people with disabilities and their families across Bedfordshire. This is done through providing:

  • Holiday Clubs
  • Saturday Clubs
  • Youth Clubs
  • Young Adult Clubs
  • Swim sessions
  • Link Project

Our aim is to support young people in social activities in an environment that is safe and non-judgemental. Each young person who accesses our services has a disability that often stops them from accessing main stream activities through attending FUN clubs they are able to achieve, raise confidence and self esteem whilst making friendships.

About the Job

FUN has been heavily reliant on community halls and schools to run activities. This became increasingly difficult due to our membership growing and community venues are high in demand. So the board of trustees started to look for a venue big enough to expand, initially we were looking for a building of approx 10,000 sq ft. Ideally an industrial unit for the space and also an area that we could run the office from.

Providing the Solution

After speaking with many local agents, we quickly realised that what we wanted was not readily available due to our charity status and what services we provide. Once we spoke with Stephen Waters at Let Direct, we were kept informed of properties as they were becoming available. FUN met Stephen at a unit at Britannia Estates, and at that time we talked at length about the charity and what are requirements were. We were delighted to find that the unit on Britannia Estates was not only bigger than we were anticipating but it had already had the change of use to a D1 which we required. Initially as a charity just starting out on the property ladder we were very cautious and the board were very thorough with their checks on how and if we could be sustainable. Let Direct have been very patient and professional throughout the process. We are now very happy to be in our new building and renovating the site ready to open to our member in the coming weeks. By having our own building we will be able to develop and expand the services we provide to families in the local area.
